Initial information about the eye and eye diseases already found in ancient Egyptian monuments of writing, the writings of Hippocrates, in the works of Indian and Chinese doctors. In the Middle Ages, during the heyday of Arab culture, science has reached a relatively high level of development: Arabic treatises written a number of Ophthalmology (Ibn Sina and other authors), in Europe, these works began to penetrate in the XIV-XV centuries. During the XIX century, has successfully developed operational ophthalmology, have been put into practice, many operations for glaucoma, extracted from the eyes of foreign bodies. After the October Revolution of 1917 People's Commissariat of the RSFSR has developed a plan for organizing eye care, providing not only treatment but also prevention of eye diseases. Trachoma has been virtually eliminated, were successfully treated many eye diseases such as tuberculosis.
In the XX century ophthalmology has been enriched by new methods of instrumental diagnosis: biomicroscopy, radiography, isotope diagnosis. Seven swords
