Diseases of Venus

Venereal disease got its name from the goddess of love and beauty Venus by the ancient Romans. The term "venereal disease" was proposed in 1527 by French scientist Jean de Betancourt. In 1903, during experiments conducted on monkeys, a Russian scientist II Mechnikov and the French scholar E. Roux proved that syphilis is contagious. In 1905, German scientists Shaudin F. and E. Hofmann discovered the agent of syphilis - treponema pallidum, and in 1906 a German scientist A. Wasserman suggested for the diagnosis of syphilis serological tests, which received its name - Wasserman.

Inguinal limfogranulomatoz was first described as a separate disease in 1913 by French physician J. Duran, J. Nicholas and M. Favreau.

In 1869, the first time in Russia at Moscow University, a special department for skin and venereal diseases, it was headed by D. Naydenov, later the same department have been organized in other institutions.

In 1872 a Russian doctor Alexander Polotebnov reported on the possibility of applying for the healing of syphilitic ulcers "green mold" - penicillin.
