Vegetables and fruits are so useful that they can prevent an early death! 33,000 lives could be saved each year if people would eat more healthily, the researchers said.
5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day by itself can prevent 15,000 premature deaths, including 7,000 from heart disease, nearly 5000 of cancer and more than 3000 of a stroke, writes the Daily Mail.
Researchers from Oxford University also suggest that reducing salt intake and fat, too, can significantly prolong life.
The conclusions of scientists, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Public Health, "provide an analysis of mortality from coronary heart disease, stroke and cancer, as well as studies on the effect of diet on disease and early death in the period from 2005 to 2007
As a result, researchers have given recommendations - Eat at least 440g of fruit and vegetables and no more than 6g of salt a day.
Dr. Peter Scarborough, who led the latest research, said: "If our dietary recommendations are implemented, they can produce a great mass effect on the health of the nation."
